The Island Fort Walton Beach Travel Review

Today I’m sharing a travel review of my recent stay at The Island in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Adam and I traveled there for a quick anniversary/babymoon trip, and we had the best time! Keep reading for my full review + a 20% off booking code!

Thank you to The Island for hosting us. Part of our stay was complimentary in exchange for the social media and blog coverage I provided for the resort. However, all opinions are 100% my own.

THE ISLAND HOTEL IN FORT WALTON BEACH, FLORIDA

Originally built in 1966, The Island Hotel was one of the first hotels on Okaloosa Island. In April of 2020, The Island completed a $15 million property-wide renovation to give the hotel a more local, boutique feel.

The property is located on 600-ft. of private sugar beach sand on the Gulf of Mexico.

Throughout its history, this iconic beachfront property has been visited by celebrities like Bob Hope and Joe Namath. Over the years, The Island has also hosted performances by Heart and The Beach Boy.

A local favorite because of its family-friendly atmosphere, The Island’s renovation has brought the resort back to its full glory.

OUR ROOM

Our room was the perfect size for two people. We loved the oceanfront view and our private balcony.

The Island has rooms in 3 separate buildings. There are courtyard views, pool views, and beach views. Adam and I always enjoy a beach view, so we loved our room. We also had a view of the Tripp Tide beach bar and AstroTurf lounge area.

DINING

One of our favorite things about staying at The Island was the on-site food options. It was so nice not having to leave the property throughout the day for meals. Below are the dining options:

Fish House – Serves breakfast and dinner. Breakfast options include omelettes, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches and more. Dinner options include pizzas, hamburgers, tacos, steak, and more. Full breakfast and dinner menus can be found here.

The Island Grille – Serves lunch and dinner. Options include pizza, burgers, wings, chicken fingers, salads, nachos, and more. The cabana bar is also attached. Full menu can be found here.

Tripp Tide – Beach bar that serves cocktails, frozen drinks, beer, and wine. Full menu can be found here.

Grotto Bar – Swim-up bar that serves cocktails, beer and spirits. Full menu can be found here.

The Island Market – Shop located in the lobby with snacks, drinks, beach essentials, and souvenirs.
