Battle of the Razors – Billie vs. Athena Club

In today’s post, I’m breaking down my experience with Billie and Athena Club. The razors will battle it out in 7 categories, but only 1 winner will remain.

This post is in no way sponsored by either company. I purchased both products with my own money and did this comparison independently of the brands.

Battle Round 1: Shipping

Billie: I ordered Billie first on a Thursday. It took a week to arrive and landed on my doorstep the following Thursday.

Athena Club: I ordered a few hours after I ordered Billie on a Thursday. Athena Club arrived at my doorstep on Monday.

Winner: Athena Club – I couldn’t believe how fast it arrived!

Battle Round 2: Packaging

Billie: Super cute packaging – very grammable!

Athena Club: Most people probably don’t care about this, and honestly I didn’t even think about it when Athena Club arrived. The packaging was aesthetically pleasing and I tore right into it. It was only after Billie arrived that I decided the Billie packaging was worth a mention.

Winner: Billie

Battle Round 3: Design

Billie: Multiple colors to pick from. Handle is plastic. Very lightweight. Overall has a cheaper feel to it. The Billie razor kit comes with a magnetic holder, but to adhere it to your wall there is only putty on the back. You may prefer this, as it would cause minimal damage to remove, but it doesn’t seem like it will hold up very well. So far, it hasn’t fallen, but it also came with extra putty so I’m just waiting for it to happen.

Athena Club: Multiple colors to pick from. Handle has a rubbery grip and just a nicer feel to it. The Athena Club razor kit also comes with a magnetic holder with a 3M sticker on the back for adhesion. I liked this because I felt like once I stuck it in place, it wasn’t going to budge. I also love the rose gold detail of this razor.

Winner: Athena Club – It just feels nicer/more expensive overall + I liked the 3M sticker for the holder install.

Battle Round 4: Blade

Billie: 5 blades. In the photo below, the Billie blade is on top. The Billie blade has charcoal shave soap to “create a pillow between the blades and your body.” I felt like there was just too much surrounding the blades and it made it bulkier + harder to manuever.

Athena Club: 5 blades. The the photo below, the Athena Club blade is on bottom. While still cushioned with skin guards and shea butter, the Athena Club blade lacks the bulk of the Billie blade, which I liked. It made it so much easier to maneuver.

Winner: Athena Club – I have found myself reaching for Athena Club over and over the last few weeks. I feel like it just maneuvers better in hard to shave areas like knees/underarms.

Battle Round 5: Shaving Cream

Billie: Non-aerosol can. Paraben free, sulfate free, vegan, and cruelty free. EWG score of 1. Made with aloe, shea butter, olive oil, and sage. This is no doubt good for your skin + the environment. It smells good too! My only complaint was that I couldn’t work it into a good lather, which made it hard to see where I had/hadn’t shaved.

Athena Club: No parabens, petrochemicals, mineral oil, or sulfates. Made mostly with aloe leaf juice and oat extract. Very foamy! You only have to use a tiny amount. This one has a stronger smell, kind of like a more feminine version of Barbasol.

Winner: Unclear. This completely depends on your preference. For me, I didn’t mind the stronger smell of the Athena Club and liked that it is a foam. I couldn’t get Billie to work into a good lather without using what I felt was too much of the product. But, if you’re sensitive to smell, Billie is the better choice for sure!

Battle Round 6: Performance

Billie: Billie gave a very smooth, long lasting shave.

Athena Club: Athena Club also gave a very smooth, long lasting shave.

Winner: Athena Club – While both razors gave a great shave, Athena Club tips the scale in this battle due to the ease of use. Like I stated before, this razor just manuevered better, even in hard to shave areas.

Battle Round 7: Price/Subscription

Billie: I purchased the razor kit ($9) + shaving cream ($8) and paid $18.36 (free shipping). You can choose the frequency/amount that you receive replacement razors and other products.

Athena Club: I purchased the razor kit ($9) + shaving cream ($10) and paid $20.71 (free shipping). You can choose the frequency/amount that you receive replacement razors and other products.

Winner: Billie

Overall Winner:

For me, I like Athena Club better. While I will probably continue to purchase my normal shaving cream that doesn’t cost $10, I plan to stick with this razor for the long haul. I love the design, color, magnetic holder, and subscription service. The plan I chose will send me 4 razors every 3 months for $13.08. That price way better than what I’ve been paying for razors! I also really love the blade and felt like I got a longer lasting shave than with my previous razor.

Athena Club, I’m a fan! 🙂
